Botox or Dysport: Questions to Ask Before Your Appointment

Dr. Renzo, Clinical Aesthetics and Laser Specialist
October 26, 2026

If you are considering Botox Cosmetic or Dysport, bring questions about the treatment plan rather than choosing solely by brand. The right discussion covers your expressions, the area being treated, the total price and safety.

Which concern are we treating?

Ask whether the concern comes mainly from muscle movement, volume changes or skin texture. Neuromodulators temporarily reduce selected muscle activity; they do not address every cause of a crease. If volume or contour is the main concern, read the Botox and filler comparison.

Why this product for this area?

Botox Cosmetic and Dysport have different product labeling and approved indications. Ask whether the proposed use is approved for that product or off-label, and why the clinician recommends it. Botox Cosmetic labeling and Dysport labeling are the primary references.

What does the quoted price include?

The units used for different botulinum toxin products are not interchangeable. Comparing a per-unit price without the whole plan can be misleading. Ask for the intended treatment areas, total anticipated charge, review arrangements and any additional costs.

When should we assess the result?

Ask when changes may begin and when the result will be reviewed. Timing and duration vary, so an exact day or number of months should not be guaranteed. Discuss the amount of movement you want to retain and how previous treatments affected you.

What risks matter for me?

Discuss prior reactions, neuromuscular conditions, medicines and pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask about temporary drooping and other unwanted effects, as well as the warning about toxin effects spreading beyond the injection area. Breathing, swallowing or speaking difficulties after treatment require immediate medical attention.

What if I want to wait?

A consultation should give you room to compare options or decide against treatment. You should understand the benefit, limitations and follow-up before agreeing. For more detail about product differences and the evidence, read the Botox or Dysport guide.
