CO2 Laser Recovery Checklist: What to Ask Before Treatment

Dr. Renzo, Clinical Aesthetics and Laser Specialist
October 26, 2026

A useful CO2 recovery plan covers more than how many days you might stay home. It should explain preparation, daily care, follow-up and how to recognize a problem. Use this checklist alongside the individualized instructions from your treating clinician.

Before choosing a date

Confirm the exact procedure and intended benefit. Ask how treatment intensity and your skin history influence healing, redness and pigment risk. Tell your clinician about travel, outdoor plans or important events before the date is finalized.

A general recovery range cannot predict your own course. Some CO2 resurfacing involves roughly two weeks of recovery, and redness may persist longer. Treatment technique and individual healing matter. ASPS recovery information.

Bring the right information

  • Your current skincare, prescriptions and supplements.
  • Previous laser, peel, injectable and other skin treatments.
  • A history of cold sores, unusual scarring or pigmentation changes.
  • Recent tanning, active skin irritation and any difficulty healing.

Do not stop a prescription on your own. Ask the appropriate clinician to coordinate any treatment preparation.

Leave with written instructions

Before the procedure, clarify who will provide your aftercare plan and how questions will be answered. Ask which cleanser and protective products to use, what to avoid, when the skin should be assessed and how to reach the team after hours.

Makeup, sunscreen, retinoids and exfoliating products should be resumed according to your clinician's instructions, not a universal calendar. Avoid picking or rubbing healing skin. Mayo Clinic explains recovery considerations.

Know when to contact the clinician

Ask which symptoms are expected and which require prompt assessment. Worsening pain, redness or swelling, or any reaction outside the provided plan, deserves contact with the treating team. Do not wait for a routine appointment if you are concerned.

Protect the result without over-treating

In Palm Beach Gardens, plan shade and outdoor protection as carefully as social downtime. Allow time for healing and review before adding another procedure or stronger skincare. Discuss what improvement is realistic and when it is appropriate to judge it.
